How I Got Here

(Don't Judge Me)

So I'm Vonda Bowens, and I am going to be completely transparent with you.

I'm a CPA, and my money used to be "funny". You know, the person who's supposed to have their financial life together? Well, mine was completely falling apart.

I had credit cards maxed out, was late on utility bills, and honestly felt like such a fraud every single day. I used to sit across from clients, helping them organize their finances, while my own bank account was screaming at me.

I finally mustered up the strength to see this financial advisor. Then this financial advisor looks at my mess of paperwork and bank statements and goes, "Girl, this is a MESS." Not gonna lie, I wanted to disappear. But something about that moment just clicked. Like, okay, Vonda, enough is enough.

I started praying about it - a lot. Because clearly my spreadsheet skills weren't cutting it. That's when things got interesting. God started showing me that money isn't just about math and budgets. It's about Kingdom principles, and when you align your finances with how He designed things to work, stuff actually starts working.

I'm not saying that I've arrived, but I've left.

I'm still learning, still growing, still making mistakes sometimes. I resolved within myself that I am going to be on this journey until the day I transition to heaven. But I've gone from that constant financial panic to actually having some peace about money. And let me tell you, that peace is everything.

Now I get to invite other Christians who are building businesses or working on their digital marketing dreams, but feel stuck because their cash flow is either feast or famine.

You know what I'm talking about.

One month you're celebrating, the next you're stressed about making payroll or paying your insurance?

I get it. The frustration is so real.

But the good news is you don't have to choose between following God's calling for your life and having money in the bank. There's actually a way to do both, and it doesn't require you to become someone you're not.

Let's take this journey together.

Because your dreams matter, and money shouldn't be the thing that stops you from living them out.

From Financial Pressure to Peace

You’re Too Faithful to Be This Broke — So What’s Really Going On?

August 08, 20255 min read

I was doing everything "right."

Tithing.

Serving.

Running my business with integrity.

Doing what I thought a faithful Christian entrepreneur was supposed to do.

And yet… I still felt stuck.

Not spiritually — but financially.

And in quiet moments, I found myself asking:

"Lord, what am I missing?"

If you've ever whispered that question in the dark — this is for you.

The Pressure of Doing Everything Right

I had a real business, and I didn't believe I was being irresponsible.

Clients. Results. Fruit.

But under the surface, I was quietly frustrated.

There was this ongoing sense that if I didn't keep everything perfectly pulled together, the whole thing would fall apart.

I'd quote affirmations like "God is my Source" and "He supplies all my needs," but I was still acting like the pressure was all on me to hold it together.

I was doing the work of the Kingdom of my Heavenly Father…

But I was carrying it like I was a spiritual orphan.

And one day, the Holy Spirit cut through all my striving with one precise phrase:

"You're still trying to earn what I've already given."

The New Covenant Shift

That moment changed everything for me.

Because I realized I wasn't walking in disobedience — I was walking in misalignment.

I took the right actions...But I had the wrong posture.

In the New Covenant, God doesn't just bless effort; he examines motives.

Scripture makes this clear:

  • "Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them." (Matt. 6:1)

  • "The Word of God judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." (Heb. 4:12)

Two people can tithe.

Two people can run businesses.

Two people can steward.

But one is operating from fear… and the other from faith in what was already appropriated to them by grace.

"Isn't This Just Semantics?"

You might be wondering,

"Vonda, aren't we just splitting hairs here? What's the real difference?"

Here it is:

The difference isn't in what you do — it's in the covenant position you do it from.

When you're trying to become blessed, you work under pressure.

When you realize you are already blessed, you work from peace.

This isn't a language game.

It's the difference between building from a place of lack and building from a place of fullness.

And that one difference will change everything about how you steward, build, rest, and give.

The Inheritance Metaphor That Reframed It All

Let me put it this way:

Imagine you get a call from an attorney.

He tells you that a long-lost billionaire uncle, someone you never met, passed away and left his entire estate to you.

Suddenly, you're a billionaire.

The money hasn't even hit your account yet… but legally, you are a billionaire.

So what do you do?

You don't hustle harder to become wealthy.

You begin learning what wealthy people do.

How they invest. How they give. How they steward.

Not from desperation…

From your new identity as a billionaire.

You aren't trying to earn something, you're learning to manage and handle what's already yours.

That's the posture of a Kingdom entrepreneur who, by grace, has received the kingdom and by faith, accesses it and all it contains.

Not working for the blessing.

Working from the blessing.

What I Started Doing Differently

Once that truth took root, everything shifted.

I stopped treating stewardship like a test to pass.

I started treating it like a training ground for royalty.

"It is the Lord your God who gives you power to get wealth." — Deut. 8:18

That power was already in me, not because of me, but because of Christ.

And so I stopped trying to become prosperous.

I started building as someone who already is, because that is the truth from the Word of God.

I am part of a royal family.

Here's what changed:

  • I simplified my systems — because royalty doesn't chase chaos

  • I started asking, "What would a daughter of the King do with her time, talent, and tools today?"

  • I made room for margin — not as a reward, but as a responsibility

  • I began using systems that multiplied peace, not just productivity

  • I stopped proving, and I started governing

Not because I'm perfect.

But because I now know who I am — and what I've inherited.

If You're Still Carrying the Pressure…

So, let me tell you what I wish someone had told me:

If you've been faithful but fruitless…

If you've been obedient but still overwhelmed…

You're not doing it wrong.

But you may still be doing it from the wrong position.

God's not waiting on you to perform.

He's inviting you to rest in what Jesus already finished at the Cross.

What Helped Me Start Building Differently

I didn't need more faith to believe God could provide.

I already believed that.

What I needed was a better understanding of what He actually gave me and how to build from that, practically.

Because at the end of the day, most of us don't need another pep talk.

We need a clear path.

A way to stop living offering-to-offering and start building something that actually lasts.

That's why I highly recommend the Wealth With God Masterclass.

It's a free training that shows you how to stop striving for provision and start multiplying what God has already put in your hands — using biblical principles, practical tools, and a mindset rooted in what you already inherited from Jesus' finished work on the Cross, not hustle.
